Now that so many Gulf Coast businesses have taken BP up on its offer of compensation through last year’s class action settlement, BP is having second thoughts. This week there will be a hearing where BP seeks an injunction in the corporation’s third attempt to stop claims being paid according the deal BP made. Never fear, though. The judge denied BP’s two prior efforts to block payment.
Ask yourself: Was BP, a $25 billion dollar a year company, adequately represented by the best of attorneys and CPA’s during the year-long negotiation of this 1,000+ page settlement agreement? The court asked this question and decided: a deal’s a deal. The same decision is expected this week.
Two things are evident from BP’s efforts: 1) Applying for benefits under the class action settlement is an opportunity to be made whole that should not be passed up. It is such a good opportunity that BP is now regretting the terms it agreed to. 2) You should make your BP claim as soon as possible because BP will stop at nothing in an effort to delay making good on its deal.
